Why Get Contacts

For one, contact lenses can make a person feel less self-conscious about needing vision correction. Another reason to get contacts is that they can correct your vision, the same if not better, than a pair of glasses. A person can use them to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and even astigmatism. Although the price of a supply of contacts may seem more expensive at first, in the long run, they can be a more cost-efficient solution. Keep in mind, replacing a pair of contacts is much cheaper than if you would lose or damage a pair of glasses.

Eye Examination Process for Contact Lenses

If this is your first time getting contacts, the process isn't much different than if you would get glasses. Your examination with Dr. Dennis starts the same as if you were getting glasses. For instance, you begin the examination with a vision screening. Our optometrist will ask you to look into lenses and read the letters you see. Based on the line you can see, our eye doctor can determine your vision deficit and to what degree. You'll need to repeat the process for both of your eyes since a majority of people don't have the same prescription in both of their eyes.

Another portion of your vision screening consists of a test for astigmatism -- a vision deficit caused by an irregularity in the shape of your eye. This test consists of our optometrist asking you to look at two different images. You must inform our eye doctor which one appears clearer.

You'll also need to undergo an eye health exam. During this part of your exam, our eye doctor looks into your eyes using a specialized magnifying device. You'll also look into different machines that evaluate your eyes, such as one that checks the pressure of your eyes. You can opt for a more entailed eye health screening, and we may recommend other testing based on your age and health problems.

Contact Lenses Fitting

You'll have to complete another test that fits your eyes for contacts. The machine acquires the dimensions of your eyes, so your contacts fit comfortably and so you have received optimal vision correction with your contacts.
